| -Laura-: hi The-Seth: So how're things. You said you had class today. College? -Laura-: yah -Laura-: university -Laura-: york -Laura-: for humanities/psychology -Laura-: exciting stuff..... The-Seth: how far along are you? -Laura-: well that's a long story, its my 4th year, however i am going part-time with Instant star taking up a good portion of the year. i graduated a year early from high school and went right into university full time and after that decided to slow it down a bit. i am a high stress, i guess u could say anxious perfectionist....so trying to master work and school wasn't working. straight A student, so -Laura-: i can't miss any classes. Thus, i work 1/2 a year on the show and school other 1/2 of the year and auditions The-Seth: wow, that's really impressive. -Laura-: i hate the swtich from working which i love and can't wait to wake up to, to dragging my butt to classes in the cold winter days and nights lol, but one needs an education if one is to be well rounded i guess The-Seth: so you see your studies as a complement to your acting career? you're not looking to give up acting when you finish school to pursue another career? -Laura-: No not at all. -Laura-: i love and live for the acting industry and am always trying to further my career. School and my studies are a fall back as well as a great background for future characters for me. I believe school makes me well rounded and grounded. Psychology really teaches me about getting into the head of an individual, their reasonings, their actions. etc. The family influences upon ones personality. -Laura-: it all helps in regard to understanding your characters reasonings. -Laura-: sorry that was long i just get carried away when it comes to acting The-Seth: that's a really unique attitude for an actress. really really admirable The-Seth: so i have to ask: how do you pronounce your last name? The-Seth: VAN-der-voort? -Laura-: yes The-Seth: what nationality is that? -Laura-: my dad's side of the family is Dutch, from Holland and my mom's is actually from newfoundland, Grandfalls. i'm actually more newfie then dutch, but well leave that a secret between u and I...lol. The-Seth: so Vandervoort is a Dutch name -Laura-: yes -Laura-: very dutch The-Seth: Ha. And hey, what's your icon there? Looks like a burning tower? -Laura-: it's the PEACH drop from Atlanta, from new year's, i went for two nights on a last minute decision to see a concert, a band i love Collective Soul....lots of fun. -Laura-: so that was exciting The-Seth: oh i get it. they drop a giant peach. -Laura-: yes The-Seth: "peach" -Laura-: haha yes The-Seth: ok, so Instant Star: what can you tell me about season 2? -Laura-: well i know there are a lot of things i can't tell you... -Laura-: but what i can tell you is that it's an entirely new show. Looks and feels different, a lot more mature and daring ideas for the episodes. sadie really takes a whole new grasp at life and the music industry. Gets a job a little closer to tommy. There is a real family ordeal which takes place and requires sadie to take control of the wheel to keep the family sane and together. The-Seth: do you have a sister in real life? to make the family-ordeal stuff more relatable to you? -Laura-: yes i have an older sister however she doesn't live here at home, she and i actually just bought a condo together we move into next year. -Laura-: but of course it helps me understand the sisterly bond and hatred part of the family thing lol The-Seth: haha The-Seth: sadie's definitely the bombshell of the show. do you consider yourself a bombshell? -Laura-: No -Laura-: not AT ALL -Laura-: hahahaha -Laura-: i am such a Tomboy and i don't really think of myself like that....besides anyone who calls themself a bombshell, is a little to self-involved and that's not at all attractive...i'm always worried about other people, no time to worry about myself like that. -Laura-: plus i'm a goof -Laura-: cracking stupid jokes and laughing at them myself.....it's kinda funny.....totally unlike sadie...but i have a serious side, maturity wise i guess. older then my years.... The-Seth: a serious side and a black belt in karate, i hear. -Laura-: yeah -Laura-: second degree black belt -Laura-: but i haven't trained in forever The-Seth: one scene from the first season of IS that everyone talks about is when sadie and eden go into the pool The-Seth: so did you do your own stunt? -Laura-: well, yes we all wanted to try it out, especially me. i have always wanted to do it all on my own with no help when it comes to anything. So Alexz (The incredibly talented sister of mine) and Katrina (Eden) and I did it on the first take and then got it bang on...however there were stunt women there to show us how to do it the safest possible way The-Seth: there was a temptation during the first season for a lot of people to consider sadie to be "the bitch." but she's so much more than that... -Laura-: well -Laura-: hahaha -Laura-: i would personally like to believe sadie had her reasoning for being the way she was in season 1 -Laura-: it's easy to hate someone like her, but she really has some redeeming qualities throughout season1 and more so in season 2...i tried to mould sadie more into someone the audience related to, understood why she felt and acted the way she did...a little bit of sympathy for her. -Laura-: but everyone hates to hate the 'bitch.' it's fun to play her for that same reason The-Seth: one last question: what's the quote in your screename? " If you could only see how blue her eyes can be, When she says she loves me" -Laura-: That's a song i love called "if you could only see" by Tonic.......its just a beautiful love song.....but i prefer GOO GOO DOLLS and Collective soul....that's just one of those songs that spoke to me, so i quoted it. The-Seth: cool The-Seth: well thanks for doing this. -Laura-: oh no that's ok, i really enjoy doing this sort of thing, so thank you The-Seth: good luck this semester! -Laura-: hahaha i'll need it -Laura-: thanks
